About the project

Kennametal is an American supplier of tooling and industrial materials founded in 1938 by Philip M. McKenna in the Latrobe, Pennsylvania area.

Staged in multiple releases, R1 and R2, the initlal release focused on the ecommerce experience, the R2 on a SaaS fabrication tool to create and manage CAD designs. We created a completed an end to end Design System “RPM”.

Home

The homepage for Kennametal was focused on highlighting unique drilling attachments. Showcasing categories and press releases were the focus of the homepage.

 

Product Details Page

Designed to accommodate the vast number of variation available to a customer for an product line. The user can also easily find documentation for the product and detailed technical specifications as they scroll the page.

Kennametal’s PDP were very technically dense and the variants each had their own uses. Providing the user the right information to make informed ordering decision was key goal identified in customer journeys.

 

Direct Connect

Direct Connect is a SaaS-like custom CAD fabrication tool for creating and managing existing CADS. Placing orders and discussing designs in real time to manage costs and feasibility.

 

Main takeaway

A complex experience that fused dynamic ecommerce with what used to be a 1000+ page ordering book that would be updated annually. The end result was fully executed B2B commerce experience and SaaS-like custom fabrication tool that no competitor that is ahead of it’s time.
